After a distinguished academic journey, Dr. Lalit Mohan retired on December 31, 2023, from his position as Dean and Head of four departments — Fine Arts and Performing Arts, Music, Communication and Journalism, and Library and Information Science — at Dr. Harisingh Gour University (Central University), Sagar, Madhya Pradesh.
Born on December 22, 1958, in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, Dr. Lalit Mohan is the son of Late Shri Kanhaiya Lal Khateek, a harmonium maker, and Late Smt. Kasturi Bai, who possessed profound knowledge of Bundeli art and culture. From his childhood, he was blessed with refined cultural values and noble upbringing.
A man of remarkable talent, Dr. Lalit Mohan holds postgraduate degrees in two subjects hindi literature and journalism then Phd degree. He rendered his services in various fields and remained associated with university service from 1986 to 2023. He began his career in the Government of Madhya Pradesh as an Adult Education Supervisor under the Panchayat and Social Service Department from 1982 to 1984. Later, from 1984 to 1986, he worked at All India Radio as a Bundeli compere and announcer. After being selected through the UPSC, he served as Programme Officer at All India Radio from 1992 to 1994.
He also served as an NCC Officer (Lieutenant) from 1987 to 1992 and again from 1996 to 1999, earning several awards and a commendation medal from the Director General for his dedicated service.
As an accomplished art and media mentor, Dr. Lalit Mohan held multiple important responsibilities — Coordinator of Journalism Distance Education, In-charge Principal of B.Ed College, University Press In-charge, Hostel Warden, Youth Festival and Cultural Coordinator. Through these roles, he established himself as a disciplined, dutiful, honest, and generous educator.
Dr. Lalit Mohan is also a skilled stage anchor and proficient in playing various Bundeli folk instruments along with the harmonium, accordion, melodion, and banjo.
He has actively participated in numerous adventurous expeditions — cycling from Bhopal to Mumbai and traveling from Sagar to Kanyakumari on a scooter, demonstrating his courage and youthful spirit.
Inspired by the generosity of Dr. Harisingh Gour, every year, on the occasion of Gour Jayanti, meritorious students and the best NCC cadets at the university are felicitated through awards funded by Dr. Lalit Mohan’s personal donations. Since 2021, three meritorious students of Class 5 at the Primary School, Moraji, Sagar, and since 2022, three meritorious Class 10 students of C.R. Model School, Sagar, have been honored annually from the interest generated on his donated funds.
Remarkably, in the very year of his retirement, he donated over one thousand books from his personal collection to students.
Dr. Lalit Mohan’s literary brilliance can be seen in his works such as Anant Path (Poetry Collection), Vijay Path (Patriotic Songs Collection), Sansadiya Patrakarita aur Hindi Press (Parliamentary Journalism and Hindi Press), and Performing Arts and Media. These books are distributed by him free of cost.
His patriotic songs collection Vijay Path has been featured in the Limca Book of Records, and details about his life are also available in the biography book "Pagdandi ke Rahi Dr. Lalit Mohan".
